INTRODUCTION
Our computers are always at risk of being attacked from malware. It is up to us, the user, to ensure that we
are taking the necessary actions needed to protect ourselves from attacks. Malware is always out to corrupt
our computers and take our information and destroy our computer systems. These attacks can come in
different types of ways. As malware has evolved there has become different versions of it. Versions such as
viruses, worms, trojans, adware, spyware, ransomeware and keyloggers are some of the most common
forms of malware. Luckily there are programs to help defend your systems.
WHAT IS MALWARE AND HOW TO NOTICE IT
• Malware or “malicious software,” is an umbrella term that describes any malicious program or code that
is harmful to systems (Malwarebytes n.d.).
• There are many ways to notice if your computer has been infected with malware.
• A slow computer, Blue screen of death (BSOD), lack of storage space, pop-ups and unwanted programs,
programs opening and closing automatically are just a few warning signs of malware infection.
TYPES OF MALWARE

The different types of malware that affects your computer. Versions such as viruses, worms, trojans, adware, spyware, ransomeware
and keyloggers are some of the most common forms of malware. Here are a couple examples and description of some malware

Viruses: A computer virus modifies other legitimate host files (or pointers to them) in such a way that when a victim’s file is executed,
the virus is also executed (Grimes, R. A., 2019)

Trojans: a trojan is a destructive program that masquerades as a benign application (Beal, 2019)a program that will appear to be
unharmful and helpful but instead will bring viruses to your computer.

adware: a software downloaded from the internet that displays advertisements on personal computers, often without the user’s
permission (YourDictionary n.d.)
HOW TO REMOVE MALWARE
•
The best thing to do is to first enter safe mode. Safe mode will disable certain functions and not allow the malware to operate
it. Disconnecting from the internet is another thing you are going to want to do to prevent the malware from spreading to your
personal data.

A great prevention method is to install an antivirus program if you do not already have one and run a virus scan. As well as
performing a disk cleanup that will delete your temporary files and free up disk space.

Running an antivirus program will discover the corrupted files and malware and will remove them. it is great to have more
than one antivirus program in your system and run them all to get rid of malware that one of the other programs might have
missed.
ANTI-MALWARE PROGRAMS

There are many types of antivirus programs that can help protect your computer. A few of them are Bitdefender Antivirus, Norton
Antivirus and Kaspersky antivirus.

Bitdefender: stands out in ransomware protection and remediation. has top protection against malware and is easy to use. Has it’s own
optional VPN integrated.

Norton: stands out in advanced privacy and financial security. It stays up to date with the latest malware threats. It has a URL blocker
that denies visits to known malicious websites

Kaspersky: stands out in a simplified security management, drive-by crypto mining infection prevention and had automatic scans being
performed. Price is affordable for everyone focusing on just the basics of malware protection.
CONCLUSION
• Malware poses a major threat to a computer system no matter what type of malware it is. With
technology becoming more and more advanced as the years pass us by, malware will become advanced
with it as well, attacking us in new and different ways. It is a never ending war. We can put measure in
place to mitigate and prevent malware but we can never fully destroy it because it will always come in
different forms. There cannot be an antivirus program without having malware to protect from.
