SPED 3305 Sam Houston State University COVID 19 Virus Spread Impacts Essay Reflect on how the COVID-19 crisis has changed your life. Discuss your feelings and then discuss how this may affect families and students. Since your final paper will be on inclusion. Think about inclusion in these times. Although this is an extra credit assignment, I want to encourage you to complete this assignment because it is an opportunity to to discuss your feelings about what you are going through and connect with your classmates and support them if they are having a hard time adjusting to our new reality. I will accept the Film Analysis up to one week after the due date with no penalty to your grade.
Submissions turned in more week after the due date will receive a 20% reduction of your grade.
Each report is worth 75 points. You receive 10 points for turning in the document in any form.
Then there are 20 points given for “Form” and 15 points for “Content” for each of the three
areas of the analysis.
Form: 20 points – Document is very well written, very well organized, easy to follow
and with very few if any spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is very rich,
specific, appropriate and descriptive. Follows format perfectly.
18 points – Document is generally well written and well-organized but has a few spelling,
grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is generally good and generally appropriate
and descriptive. Follows format well.
16 points – Document is generally fairly well written and organized but has more than a
few spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is generally adequate and
generally appropriate and somewhat descriptive. Follow format in general.
14 points – Document is generally not well written and organized and it has more than a
few spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is more general and repetitive
and less descriptive. Follows format somewhat.
12 points – Document is not well written and is poorly organized and has repeated,
systemic spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is very general and
repetitive and not very descriptive. Follows format very little.
5 points – Document is poorly written and poorly organized but has numerous spelling,
grammar or punctuation errors. Vocabulary is general, inadequate and not descriptive
or appropriate. Doesn’t follow format at all.
Content (for each paragraph/section):
15 points – Information is very cohesive, specific, thorough, complete, appropriate,
interesting and well explained. Analysis is very well thought-out and has depth and very
clear explanation.
13.5 points – Information is cohesive, specific, thorough, complete, appropriate,
interesting and well explained. Analysis is well thought out, and has some depth and
good explanation.
12 points – Information is generally cohesive. It is as general as specific, somewhat
thorough, complete, appropriate, interesting and well explained. Analysis is somewhat
well thought out, and has some depth and adequate explanation.
10.5 points – Information is somewhat cohesive. It is more general than specific,
somewhat superficial, not thorough, incomplete, inappropriate at times, not very
interesting and not well explained. Analysis is generally not well thought out, and is
generally superficial and has only some explanation.
9 points – Information is generally not cohesive. It is mostly general, not thorough,
incomplete, inappropriate and poorly explained. Analysis is not at all well thought out,
and is superficial and it has inadequate explanation
7.5 points – Information is not cohesive. It is very general, incomplete, inappropriate
and very poorly-explained. Analysis is very weak and superficial and it has almost no
explanation.
Spanish 110 – Spring 2020 Explanation and Rubric for Film Analysis
Apart from actually traveling to another country, watching a film from or about another country
and culture is one of the very best ways to explore that country/culture. Two times during the
course you must watch a film from the Spanish-speaking world (NOT the films assigned for class
viewing: “The Way”, “Even the Rain”, or “The Motorcycle Diaries”) and write a description and
an analysis of the film. Follow these guidelines, schedule and film choices and include this
information:
Paragraph 1 – Film, setting, plot and characters (between 150 – 250 words)
Who is the director of the film and in what country was the film made/produced?
Where and when does the story seen in the film take place?
What is the film about?
What is the plot and what happens?
Who are the major characters, what are they like and how do they relate to one another?
Paragraph 2 – Cultural analysis (between 150 – 250 words) – Using the USA or your native
country as a point of comparison write a paragraph that describes and analyzes the
country/culture portrayed in the film. Here are some things you can compare and analyze
(depending on the film):
Basics in life like housing and living conditions, transportation, food etc.
Relationships with family, friends
Formal/business/ interactions and activities
Role of authority at societal level (military, police, law etc.) and personal (family, job
etc.)
Gender roles and interactions between genders
Social classes and interactions between social classes
Anything that stands out to you as a good point of comparison/analysis
Paragraph 3 – Your analysis (between 150 – 250 words)
Does this film make you think strongly that people, life and cultures are basically the
same, or are basically very different because of the place and time period? Explain.
What do you think the film’s director is trying to achieve or tell us with this film? Does
she/he succeed?
What are your personal opinions about the film? Did you like it? Why?
What did you learn from it?
Would the film be appropriate/good for use in Span 110? Explain.
