The Assignment
The document you will produce is an internal report in memo format, addressed to a specific audience related to your major and/or job experience.
Topic. You must choose a topic from your own work experience, from your classroom/academic experience, or from an extracurricular activity related to your major. This must
be a realistic issue you are very familiar with and on which a decision needs to be made or action taken. It must be related to your major or your student life. In reporting your
findings, you will examine various courses of action, the pros and cons of a single decision, the costs versus the benefits of some action, and the various impacts of an action on a
number of stakeholders. In any case, you will investigate all the available information and present an argument for a particular option. The report should probably be no fewer than
eight full pages, and probably no more than twelve.

Your persona. You will write this recommendation report in an actual role you have held (or currently hold) as a student, an employee, or organization member, even though the
scenario you create might be fictional. Try to get ideas from your actual experience. Avoid global, national, or general topics. Although you may get inspiration from other course
projects, avoid classic textbook-case scenarios lacking personal involvement and a “bottom line.”
Make this recommendation report as realistic as possible by keeping your audience local and familiar, and your topic specific and manageable for your own status as a writer.
Length and Submission Requirements
• The recommendation report must be in memo format
• The recommendation report must be addressed to the audience described above.
• The recommendation report must equally consider, evaluate and compare THREE potential solutions to the problem before recommending one of them.
• The body of the recommendation report must be no less than eight pages (in blue above)
• The report should be professional in appearance and formal in presentation, but should also be appropriate for its audience. In identifying your audience, also attempt to
identify the standards of reports in her field or at her company.
• A minimum of six worthwhile, authoritative secondary sources must be used to prove claims made in your report. These sources must be correctly and consistently
documented. Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in an automatic zero on this assignment.
• The report should be addressed to the primary audience (NOT to me; think of me as a manager who must approve and consult on your work).
• The recommendation report should follow the guidelines in your textbook on effective writing style.
