HOW TO FORMAT A Q & A PAPER for APA

When doing your papers that are in question and answer form and also in APA format, you want the answer to begin at the one inch margin, which would be under the number. For a Q and A format paper, start your first question with the numeral “1” and then a period. This is the proper way to indicate the numerical position of the question, but if your teacher has designated a different way, follow those instructions.

Type the question and after you finish, hit enter only once. This will give you one double space line to differentiate the question from the answer visually. After you finish writing your answer, hit enter again, only once. Start your next question with the numeral “2” and then a period. There is no need to make your questions bold or to differentiate them from the answers in any other way, unless your teacher has requested that you do so. I prefer they are not bold.

APA Format for Discussion Questions

To use APA format for discussion questions, copy the question as described above. Always answer with complete sentences and indent all paragraphs. For example:

1. Which management style is best for all occasions?

Begin your answer here, with an indented paragraph.Answer thoroughly and thoughtfully and include support for your answers (citations and reference page) if the assignment instructions call for them. Indent each paragraph. Notice how the text/typing comes all the way to the same margin as the numbers of the questions and is not indented?

Content Instructions:
Be sure you have read chapter 8: Organizational Culture, Structure, and Design.
Copy and paste the questions and their numbers into your paper (maintain the double
spacing of the questions to make it easier). Answer each directly below the question. Begin
each answer with a new indented paragraph:
1. Of the four types of Organizational Culture adapted from Cameron, Quinn,
DeGraff, & Thakor, and described in Chapter 8, which best describes the
organization you work for (or recently worked for)? Explain why and cite the
source of whichever of the four types you choose: your textbook.
2. Explain how you learned about the organizational culture when you began to
work there. (Hint: see the section on “How Employees Learn Culture”.) This
question requires a citation.
3. Based on what you know about yourself, your preferred working style, and your
career goals, which one best describes the type of organizational culture that you
would most like to work in, or would be most successful in? (Cite your sources
when you use terms that are not common knowledge, such as the culture styles.)

No cover page or abstract for this paper.

Name, date, and course title in upper right hand corner, single-spaced. This is not
APA, but just how I like it for these. If you choose to include a cover page, do not
also put your name on the inside, but cover page not required.

Pay attention to sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. These all
count in your score.
•
Citations and reference page are required for this paper. You will need to be
citing the text in most of your answers. Cite when you introduce a new topic
such as Org Culture, or any of the four types. These are not “common
knowledge”. Cite whenever you use a source to support or influence your
thinking. Cite if you quote. Cite if you discuss research or other people’s
thinking.
Follow instructions carefully and proof carefully. All aspects of your writing will be counted toward
your score. Your score will reflect the depth and breadth with which you considered and discussed the
topic as well as the quality of your writing in terms of following content and format instructions,
grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, organization, and inventiveness and originality of thought.
