The TED talk was very interesting and
informative. Philip makes great points in
the talk and really got me thinking about
business strategy and its relationship
with technology. Information is power in
this day and age – data could bring
amazing possibilities such as medical
and productivity advancements. Big
data could absolutely dictate many
aspects of life, including business.

Philip Evans talk was recorded in 2013
and I agree with him that now large
amount of data has almost change the
business world and has reduced the
transaction cost. I think it is because
now the data available helps the
businesses to make better decisions,
and large amount of data has helped the
business to make their strategy in a
different way. In today age near to me a
business most valuable thing is data
because all future decisions are based
on that. Data science helped the
businesses to grow in better way. I will
disagree with him on the point that
competitive advantages of two business
are not based on data I say that if a
company has a better data it can
perform well if both have same quality
products.

Internet, analogs, IP addresses, in short,
information technology has changed the
way business works. The strategies
applied by businesses were based on
assumptions about technologies that
were fixed, however, with the fast
changing, updating technological shifts
are impacting businesses in different
ways. First of all, the transaction costs
are falling which enables the value
chains (Micheal Porter model) to be
broken and therefore allows market
disintermediation. Secondly, in terms of
economies of scale, the lower
transaction cost and the availability of
autonomous users, for example in
Wikipedia, weakens the need of
horizontal integration and collapses
certain amount of economies of scale.
Indeed, I agree with the proposition that
with time as technology is changing
lifestyles of human being, it is certainly
changing businesses.
