1. Please write a 300-word Reading Outline, referring to at least 3 key points in Segal’s article “Why Is Empathy Important?” (Click Here) and comment on the importance of empathy. Can you make some examples from your own life experiences on how important has empathy been in your own life? Or if you disagree with Segal or believe that empathy is not important, state your position why you think so.

2. 300 word. This semester focused community, discourse and empathy at large. At this coronavirus time, our topics seem to be much more highlighted in the media, scientific and political circles. (Links to an external site.)Please bring in some ideas from these articles and try to compare and contrast it with Segal’s ideas in her article “Why Is Empathy Important?” pages 55-75 (Click Here to Download the PDF). How important empathetic in discourse is in dealing with covid-19?

3. 300-word. There is no doubt that a majority of us (scholars) today believe in “social equality” as the basis for any healthy and successful society. Shragge in his article “Theoretical Perspectives and Models of Community Work” pages 1 to 28 (Click Here) discusses the ways community building and social activism can help to create a more dynamic and progressive society.

4. Please read three short sections from Delanty’s book including 1) “Technology and the Transformation of Community” pages 169-172 (Click Here to Download), 2) “World Community” pages 153-157 (Click Here to Download), and 3) “The Political Impact of Virtual Community” 181-185 (Click Here to Download).

After reading these pieces, please discuss what kinds of community were more revealing to you? What did you find interesting in that community? And how can you redefine a community around you in relation to what Delanty talked about?
