Negotiation plan protocol Scenario – We are a negotiating team the have chosen to form a negotiation plan for a client, employees (union workers), seeking to a flexible schedule such as Part-time Telecommuting: Allowing employees to work from home on certain days of the week. Example: An employee works remotely on Monday, but reports to the office the other four days of the week. https://sbshrs.adpinfo.com/flexible-schedules-options-and-key-considerations Please refer to the attached document for the abstract, understanding the issues and bargaining mix to assist with completing the Protocol section.I looking for about page double space APA format. Please be sure that every question below is answered. Protocol: • Where will we negotiate? Do we wish to influence the choice of location? • When will we negotiate? Do we wish to influence the time and length of negotiation? • Who will be at the actual negotiation meeting? Do we want to bring other parties to serve a particular purpose (e.g., an expert or an observer)? • Do we have an agenda? How can we help to either create the agenda or participate in its development? • What will we do if the negotiation fails? • Who will write down and confirm the agreement? Do we need to have the con- tract reviewed by a professional (e.g., attorney, accountant, agent)? Protocol – Example Only The first round of negotiation will take place on the phone. This will save both sides time and money if they are two far apart. The second and final round will take place in Boston, MA. at the headquarters of Oracle. The client will request that the final decision maker and the legal team be available to finalize the arrangement. Our client will take along an agenda and a check-off list; this will ensure all interests are covered. If the final negotiations fail we will withdraw our final offer and wait for a counter offer. The firm will provide all documentation outlining the agreement. Abstract
“96% of U.S. professionals say they need flexibility, but only 47% have it.” states
Annie Dean on Harvard Business Review. (Dean). For most Americans; The American
dream is to have a great career, get married, and start a family. However, most jobs
require odd unstructured hours, that leave families struggling to balance family and work
life. Some parents are finding it difficult to find childcare for the off hours they are forced
to work to make financial needs. Families must sacrifice home life, job opportunities, or
certain expenses because hours or child care prevents them from living the life they
deserve. Child care is expensive and only during 1st shift hours. Families that can’t
afford daycares, must resort to different shifts or a parent staying home with the
children. Flexible working hours would allow employees to work from home more often
during the week. This will allow parents more time with their children. Flexible working
hours will allow employees more time at home and will relieve pressure and stress to
finish work at a certain time. Flexible working hours will make America strong, better,
and family friendly.

Understanding the Issues
The clients that we have chosen to form a negotiation for is seeking a more
flexible working schedule. We have a few employees interested in working from home.
I know we have considered allowing our employees to do some work from home but
haven’t had enough volunteers to make the change complete. However, we have half
of our staff interested and excited for the opportunity to work from home, instead of the
office.
Currently our employees work a full 40 hours in the office, along with any
overtime that must be done. Coming into the office is great, it allows customers or
employees to physically have someone to talk to in case of any issues going on during
their shift. However, a lot of our client’s work can be done at home. Our clients are
expressing concerns about not seeing their families as much as they would like. They
are also unhappy with the amount of overtime spent in the office, while this overtime
work could be done in the privacy of their homes.
The benefits of allowing our employees a flexible home and office schedule
would include less stress, employees will work harder, employees will feel appreciated,
more work will be done, and much more.
The only downfall would be trying to keep track of hours, it would be hard to give
employees overtime pay without knowing how much they actually worked. However,
the tradeoff could be no more overtime pay if staff is on the flexible schedule. There are
many benefits to accepting a flexible work schedule for both the employer and the
employee. There isn’t as many negative aspects to accepting a flexible schedule for
employers.
Bargaining Mix
There are many important benefits of accepting a flexible schedule for your staff.

Morale- As an employer you will be able to boost the morale of your
company by allowing staff to have flexible work hours. Employees will
feel happier to come to work, knowing they get more time with their family
or home life. (Heathfield)

Reduces Absenteeism- Employees will be willing to come into work and
will even show up on time. (Heathfield)

Reduces Employee Turnover- Employees will love working for a company
that lets them do work from home. This will mean less employees will
quit because they will enjoy this freedom. (Heathfield)

Enhances Company Image- Employees will view the company as family
friendly, this will mean other people will want to work for our company. A
company image is how you get new employees in the door and current
employees to stay. If employees feel appreciated and happy at their
work, they won’t feel the need to leave and they will also talk highly about
their job and the company they work for. If employees are talking
positively about a company, customers usually hear and choose to work
with that company. Most people would prefer to work with a company
that is family friendly and good to their employees, then a company that is
horrible to their employees.
