For each weeks discussion, you will view a video-lecture covering the major topics in the units. It is important that your primary posts be comprehensive, as outlined in the Discussion Board Rubric, and meets the minimum word requirement of 250-words.

Your Unit 4 readings introduced the theoretical underpinnings of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and how these theories can be applied in classroom and behavior management. You learned that the school setting and the physical set-up of the classroom have a great deal to do with setting students up for success. Information was presented regarding how classroom rules and routines can contribute to an effective learning environment. The functional behavior assessment (FBA) was introduced and an exploration into the attributes and characteristics of behavior was made.

Discussion:
The readings for Unit 4 illustrate the importance of setting up the physical classroom environment in order to prevent interfering and unwanted behaviors and to create a more effective learning environment. You were introduced to proactive approaches to avoid behavior problems that included the design of rules, routines, and schedules. Finally, applied behavior analysis (ABA) and its theories and approaches were introduced.
With these basics of classroom management in mind, discuss the following:
- Preventive, supportive, and corrective discipline. Define each of these approaches and discuss them in terms of proactive, active, and reactive strategies to classroom management.
- Design two classroom rules and evaluate how they line up with the characteristics of effective classroom rules? What are the rewards for compliance? What are the consequences for non-compliance?
- What are the three criteria for operationally defining a target behavior?
- Describe four measurable dimensions of behavior.
