On domestic policy he reached across the aisle, balanced a budget, and worked with Republicans. There were bills passed that helped him get a second term by using conservative ideas. He was considered effective as president, the deficit had disappeared and was considered a fantastic politician. He was charismatic but he happened to have issues with sexual relations we all know about. Republicans had a conspiracy against the president. There was a group of republicans that wanted to impeach Clinton. During the white water investigation there was tapes that surfaced about his relationship with a White house intern that put a dark cloud over his presidency. Today, the country could use his willingness to work with both parties. Clinton’s presidency is considered successful because of the bills he passed and his ability to speak to the American people. He gave hope and peace to people who agreed with him, and those who did not could still agree he tried to work with both parties. Even if someone does not like him personally, he did use his position as president to help the American people.“

A huge portion of Americans stood behind him because of universal insurance coverage and low healthcare costs, but the employers and businesses were opposed to him. Another issue that arose during Clinton’s presidency was the opinions of sexuality. Personal choices, that should always be respected, were seen as a “threat to their moral beliefs and the strength of American society” (427). This population was automatically seen as a threat to the strength of this country, and that is unfair and sad. Everyone should have had equal opportunities in all aspects of life. Abortion was the next big discussion during this time. Through Roe v. Wade and Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, states were banned from allowing public money to be used for these procedures. As we all know, abortion is still a huge topic today and this reading helped show us the progress it took at the beginning of the antiabortion movement. Many things happened during Clinton’s presidency, both good and bad. However, he was successful in growing the economy, passing bills, and maintaining a strong, stable military, even during no threat of conflict.“
