Discussion on process flow diagrams

Reflecting on class discussion on process flow diagrams, please design a flow diagram of a selected management or service process at your workplace. Please note the following expectations:
– You can either draw the flow diagram as a visual representation of the process, or
– You can write about the process in form of a report
– In either case, please add a chapter on critical discussion on the process flow (strengths, weaknesses, possible bottle necks, cost, time consumption), and opportunities to improve it
– The diagram should include at least two of the following: materials flow, information/ reporting flow, financial flow, document flow
– The flow should include the major activities, decision points and their interactions with feedback loops

About the Course:

The course instructs learners on how to effectively and efficiently manage the primary functions of operations, and supply chain management in manufacturing and service organizations. In the light of the globalization and availability of overseas low-cost resources (e.g. labor, raw material) the course familiarizes learners with the perspectives of customer value, management of operations, both locally and internationally, and collaborative value creation and supply chains. Specifically, topics such as operations strategy and performance objectives, manufacturing and service processes, supply chain processes, and operations improvement practices will be covered.

Individual Assignment:

Reflecting on class discussion on process flow diagrams, please design a flow diagram of a selected management or service process at your workplace. Please note the following expectations:

• You can either draw the flow diagram as a visual representation of the process, or
• You can write about the process in form of a report
• In either case, please add a chapter on critical discussion on the process flow (strengths, weaknesses, possible bottle necks, cost, time consumption), and opportunities to improve it
• The diagram should include at least two of the following: materials flow, information/ reporting flow, financial flow, document flow
• The flow should include the major activities, decision points and their interactions with feedback loops
• This constitutes 20% of your mark
• The grading will be based on:
  • The accuracy of the flow description
  • The level of detail and complexity
  • The presentation of work
  • Critical analysis of the flow and possible bottlenecks
