HIS105 Strayer University America as a Superpower Paper After giving general consideration to your readings and your research, select one of the positions above as your positionyour thesis. (Sometimes after doing more thorough research, you might choose the reverse position. This happens with critical thinking and inquiry. Your final paper might end up taking a different position than you originally envisioned.) Organize your paper as follows, handling these issues: Part 1: Introductory paragraph with thesis statement. Part 2: FOUR EXAMPLES–To support your position, use four specific examples from different decades between 1950 and the present. However, two examples must be from the Cold War years (before 1991) and the other two examples must be from 1991 to the present. Part 3: Explain why the opposing view is weak in comparison to yours. The opposing view is the thesis statement you did not choose. Part 4: Legacy today and conclusion. Consider your life today: In what way does the history you have shown shape or impact issues in your workplace or desired profession? Every profession now must have security safeguards, plan what to do with data, etc Length: The paper should be 500-to-750 words in length. Research and References: You must use a MINIMUM of four quality academic sources; the Schultz textbook must be one of them. The others must come from the list provided on the instructions sheet, or they must be quality sources you find in the universitys online library. America as a Superpower
Matters concerning international policing has over time evolved in the United States. It
has involved policing activities that transcend the borders on the national states, and the security
agencies in the United States have been on the forefront in playing these significant roles than
any other country in the globe. Before World War II, the enforcement agencies were quite
insulated from activities beyond its borders and thus had to incorporate security agencies from
other nations (1). However, after the war, police institutions have stepped up and taken a more
significant role in international operations. The involvement of these agencies in international
practices and efforts that focus on incorporating other nations to ensure their global policing
strategies become beneficial to the globe. Via examples from distinct a long time since 1950, it’s
miles clean that the global policing position and strategy of America become as soon as vital, but
have to be now discarded as useless and counterproductive.
The U.S. showed its willingness to uphold the international policing during the 1990
invasion of Kuwait by Iraq (2). The reaction of the U.S. towards the incident in collaboration
with the allied nations suggests the readiness of the international community led by the U.S. in
responding to aggression and threats to the international community. The actions of the U.S.
military intervention from 1950 to 1953 was to fight communism, which was being propagated
by the Chinese and the North Korean troops. The response was successful following the presence
of U.S. troops in South Korea. However, the circumstances during the cold war era and the
current situation are different. The Iraqi Freedom operation that started in 2003 has seen the U.S.
use more resources, for instance, during the operation, U.S. troops exceeding 240,000 were in
foreign locations around the globe which means the country had to employ a high number of
soldiers to station them within the country to facilitate rotation of those outside the nation.
The equipment used in these operations cost a lot the taxpayer to police the world. During
the cold war, this strategy was serving the purpose because most of the countries were still
recovering from the war and thus the U.S. had to step up and confront Russias threat and other
countries with the same ideologies from spreading communism (3). The intervention of the US
even after the cold war for instance in Libya and Syria has exhibited the unnecessary use of more
and resources in unwarranted operations which leads to wear and tear of the military terming it
as readiness crisis. The cost that accompanies buy back readiness is exceptionally high.
Some may disagree with this approach citing that the U.S. involvement in policing will
cause deterrence, but this thought cannot justify it because the circumstances during the Cold
War and now are incredibly different. At that time, there was no choice but for the U.S to bear
the burden (4). However, currently, other superpowers have emerged, and their allies are now in
a position to carry and manage the burden of defense. For instance, the U.S. GDP approximately
$16 trillion but countries such as Japan, which has the third-largest economy, Korea, Taiwan,
Australia, among others, have seen the economies rise. The enemy has changed from
communism to terrorism, and the objective should change from containment to liberation and
democracy. The long-term consequences that come with too much involvement in continued
international policing are becoming a burden to the country and the general population, and this
can be solved by building consensus with other allied states through sharing values and interests
that enable the countries to participate in defending the continents.
The current world has become multipolar, and the tag of being a superpower nation has a
lot of benefits, especially concerning the economy. The U.S. international policing costs a lot of
the taxpayers money but brings out the importance of collaborative actions towards fighting

terrorism. More so, organizations ought to consider allocating resources towards ensuring
cybersecurity. Terrorism, has over time, evolved, and the perpetrators are using loopholes in the
digital platform to continue their criminal activities. It includes recruitment and looking for
vulnerabilities in the organizational systems. A profession in the field of IT requires one to
understand the need to ensure data is safeguarded and maintains its properties of atomicity,
consistency, integrity, and durability. The lack of proper data management can cause a
detrimental effect in the lives of the general population including the compromise on private data
that may be used by criminals to commit terror activities and the legal suites that the company
may face following the mishandling of individual data.
