Walden University Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Interview Questions Discussion: Creating Interview Questions
Sam Pederson, the head of HR at Leeland Radiological Laboratory, met with the manager of the X-ray department to get a better idea of the kind of individual they needed to fill the vacant assistant X-ray technician position. Later, Sam reflected on how the manager described the department and the role. He then began drafting interview questions that would help Sam determine whether the applicant was a good fit.
The interview process is a key component of the employee recruiting process. Designing a good interview can lead to hiring the right person for a job and may even predict future employee performance (Foster, 2013). Interviewing is a skill that requires training (Quinn, 2018). The interview process can be successful if the interviewer has structure and format, follows guidelines, and conducts it in a staged manner (Steindhart, 2017).
In this Discussion you will select a position in the field of healthcare and imagine you are an HR manager who will be conducting interviews for this position. Then, you will draft several interview questions in preparation for the interview.

Think back to the scenario involving Jane and the Leeland Radiological Laboratory.
Sam Pederson, the head of HR at Leeland Radiological Laboratory, informed Jane that
current job postings were usually placed on the public announcement board in the lobby
as well as on several major online job search sites (Indeed, Monster, and ZipRecruiter).
Jane Smith led herself to the far right of the Leeland Radiological Laboratory lobby
(where the public announcement board was located). She looked through the job
offerings on the board and noticed a specific job posting that interested her: X-ray
technician/medical assistant. She carefully read the positions description and
requirements. The position was described as:
Deliver overall support for providers and clinic operations.
Assist with the operation of X-ray equipment and production of X-ray images used for
diagnostic purposes.
Explain procedures and observe patients
Ensure safety and comfort of patients during scan
Ensure imaging equipment is in proper operating condition
Prepare exam and treatment rooms for each patient
Jane was very interested in the position as the pay seemed reasonable and it included
health, dental, and vision plan benefits. She took a snapshot of the job posting with her
mobile phone camera and decided she would submit her resume for the position
through the online recruitment system. The next day, she planned to contact the
Leeland Radiological Laboratory Human Resources Department to express her interest
in the position and to let them know she submitted her resume.
The process of recruiting and hiring the right candidate for an open position is extremely
important to an organization’s success. Hiring a candidate that does not possess the
proper skills can drain a company’s resources. An unqualified candidate requires
extensive training, instruction, supervision, and adjustment time to fulfill a position.
Furthermore, a candidate may be unsuitable for a position because his or her
personality and interests do not align with the position’s requirements.
HR professionals, with the help of department managers, are tasked with posting
accurate position descriptions in an effort to find candidates who are both qualified for
and interested in the position. They also need to be skilled in the interview process, a
key component of identifying the appropriate individual to hire. Asking the right
questions during an interview is essential to ascertaining whether an applicant is the
right fit.
This week, you will compose interview questions for a position in the healthcare field.
You will also explain the importance of effective position descriptions. Additionally, you
will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of position descriptions and identify terms
and concepts related to recruiting and hiring.
