Self-Image In The Marketing World

Self-consciousness is something we experience every day. Everyone has looked in the mirror at some point in their lives and thought about not wearing this shirt because people might look at them in a weird way, or these pants because they look bigger or smaller wearing them. Some view self-consciousness as an afterthought or a waste of time; there isn’t any need for them to focus on such a common emotion, so they just decide to live with it and move on. Others might say to themselves, all right, this is becoming a problem. I have to find ways to be less self-conscious.However, there are also those who are excessively self-conscious about themselves. Sometimes it even gets to the point where it affects their mental health. Their mental illness flares up when they don’t like the way they look (Gotter, “Self-Conscious Emotions”). A person’s own image has the utmost importance in the marketing world. The reason for this is that people tend to focus on the person or people advertising the product(s), rather than the actual product itself. They think they can look as beautiful or as cool or as rich as the advertisers. This is the science behind advertising; author Martin Lindstrom describes it as “a combination of marketing and science, or neuromarketing” (qtd. in Kossman, “The Truth About False Advertising”). Advertisers like to play around with your conscious and subconscious mind. They will often do something to trigger a craving instinct, like making noise or showing something that would increase one’s satisfaction. Creating a sense of urgency and utilizing the element of fear are also two methods advertisers may use to attract attention and profits.

Thesis: The three main effects of paper texts becoming electronic is the convenience, aid for the visually impaired, and the decrease in retention.

The exceptional effect of paper texts becoming e-books is the convenience of having them portable in your designated device. You have the ability to have as

many books as you like on your portable device. This is clear when CBS news cited the advantage of e-books, “A portable little e-reader can carry an entire

librarywherever you go, which is great for travelers or those who always want a choice of reading material” (Kraft, 2015). Students will be able to read

anywhere just like with a paper text. Students will no longer struggle carrying heavy pounds of textbooks in their backpacks. There is a limitation to the

convenience because the e-book is in your portable device you may not be able to loan or resale the text (Mims, 2011). That small profit can no longer be made

but your e-book will never give you back problems.

Development in the World of Fast Food

Thesis: Large fast-food chains have the ability to use their reach, platform, and buying power for sustainable agriculture, social issues, and humane treatment of animals

Body 1:

Fast food is cheaper because it is less expensive to make. This is definitely part of the reason why there is so much obesity in America, especially in less fortunate populations. What fast-food chains need to do is find a way to maintain affordability while improving the quality of their food and incorporating sustainable agriculture. Eric Schlosser states that “The fast-food chains’ vast purchasing power and their demand for a uniform product have encouraged fundamental changes in how cattle are raised, slaughtered, and processed into ground beef” (Schlosser, 2000). I do not think fast food will be a fad and because of this, fast food chains need to find a way to not have a negative impact on the environment.
